Winona-Ryder

Winona Laura Horowitz who is professionally known as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Her name was chosen by parents for the town in which she was raised. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother, were both authors and editors. Ryder's father comes from a Jewish family. Ryder considers herself Jewish. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. At the age of seven, Ryder was only seven her family moved to Mendocino County California. The family didn't have electricity. Television books were the only way for Ryder to keep her busy and she started to become a keen reader. In 1983, when she was twelve, Ryder enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre to take classes in acting. She landed her debut role on the big screen in 1986, when she was 15 years old. Ryder was bullied at high school. The hope was that the acting profession would alter that. It didn't work out. She pursued her dream. Her first big break occurred in the year 1988, when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder kept playing successful roles in various films. Two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
